VO - Done |

In the Gargano it is virtually impossible to buy doors and windows etc off the shelf. Our fabulous new doors were made to the original design by craftsmen - carpenters, stonemasons and ironmongers. The studs are the originals that we managed to recover from the remains of the old doors. |

This view shows the spacious terrace fronting VO. The 4-metre high walls capped with columns give the impression of a fortified castle. PS. Picture is a little out of date. Those columns now support shade-giving vines and flowering plants. |
|
Below the main terrace there are two further large terraces accessed from the upper terrace via a central staircase. When we first viewed the property these stairs were hidden under a mantle of overgrown brambles, bushes and a huge prickly pear plant.. |

The Middle Terrace enjoys shade in the morning then full sun until sunset. Here there is a permanent marble-topped table with bench seating and plenty sunbathing space. |
|
The pool terrace is in full sun apart from very early morning. The olive tree enclosed in a semi-circular stone wall provides some leafy shade until late in the day. The plunge pool kept us cool for 5 years while we fought the bureaucrats to build a "basin to collect rain water" aka swimming pool. We now have permission and progress can be seen at Swimming Pool

The original wood fired bread oven was cracked and no longer viable so we had to build a new one. In the photograph, and inside the oven itself, you can see our gifted master builder Michele
